Baylor International Pediatric AIDS Initiative (BIPAI) Toolkit

This toolkit was prepared by the staff of the Baylor College of Medicine International Pediatric AIDS Initiative (BIPAI) at Texas Children's Hospital. A Compendium of Strategies to Prevent Health Care–Associated Infections in Acute Care Hospitals

The Compendium is a set of strategies designed for acute care hospitals to prevent six of the most common health care–associated infections: Clostridium difficile, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, central line-associated bloodstream infections, ventilator-associated pneumonia, catheter-associated urinary tract infections, and surgical site infections. The strategies of basic infection surveillance, control, and prevention recommendations in hospitals can lead to improved infection rates and patient safety programs.

Developed by Kaiser Permanente, the purpose of this toolkit is to make references, product information, and associated tools readily accessible to support infection prevention and control staff in the implementation of interventions that are in addition to the Institute for Healthcare Improvement infection prevention How-to Guides from the 5 Million Lives Campaign. This toolkit is not intended to suggest that these interventions are mandatory.
