PIPS compiled a series of tools to assess the effectiveness of hospital strategies to combat blood stream infections and ventilator-associated pneumonia. This Web-based toolkit focuses on two interventions to improve critical care—reduction of catheter-related bloodstream infections and ventilator-associated pneumonia. The toolkit includes: Education, Inventories (surveys), Paper checklists, Statistical process control, Surveillance guides and Quality improvement. The toolkit is available as several Word documents, PowerPoint documents, and PDFs, requiring Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Adobe Reader.

AACN Healthy Work Environment Assessment

Developed by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, the AACN Healthy Work Environment Assessment tool is a screening test for organizations to measure the health of their work environment against the AACN Standards for Establishing and Sustaining Healthy Work Environments. It provides an overall healthy work environment score and scores for each of the six essential standards. This screening tool evaluates a work environment based on each of the standards, but does not diagnose specific challenges within a standard.

Toolkit for ICUs to Improve the Safety and Quality of Patient Care

The toolkit was developed by an Intensive Care Unit Implementation Workgroup (including including physicians, nurses, allied health professionals and hospital administrators) and supported by a team of Michigan Health and Safety Coalition (MH&SC) members, technical and policy experts and administrative staff.
